My favourite native plants in LA

A slow walk through the canyon with someone who can name everything on it: sage, buckwheat, manzanita, and the poppies that only show up after fire.

A hazy Los Angeles hillside of native sage, buckwheat and white matilija poppies

We start at the top of the trail early, before the haze burns off. Rosalind stops every few minutes to hand you something to crush and smell.

You leave knowing which plants belong here, which ones do not, and what to put in your own yard so it needs almost no water.
